BSD Magazine (July 2013): Security and Cryptography in BSD

Since the “Summer of Surveillance” draws to a close, security has been at the forefront of many discussions, and I am also concerned.

 This article from FreeBSD News is a good reference and is available for download in PDF format, free of charge.

Of special interest to me is the “Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Basic Applications in BSD OS” since ECDH style encryption is supposed be stronger than the regular RSA encryption.

It only works if your recipients are also ECC capable, but with today’s plethora of front-ends to the varying encryption tools available, it shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
